CGiii Comment

Not quite sure as to why this film was nominated for the Queer Palm...but, Amy's appeal knew no boundaries!

Oscar recognised this as a fine documentary...deservedly winning the much sought-after statuette...but, Asif Kapadia's film is one of the best (and saddest) music films ever made.

He takes no prisoners either...he does not outwardly condemn, they all do that themselves...with an embarrassing deftness. Nick Winehouse, Blake Fielder and the rest...you all have blood on your hands.

Thankfully, there are no talking heads postulating praise...Amy, her character, her voice does that - quite easily - herself...through existing footage, brilliantly edited together to give a tangible, truthful and devastating account of her oh-too-short life.

This is not her legacy...her music is. This is the exposition and exhibition of how cruel and destructive fame can be...and, without the proper support network...fatal.

Amy's problem was love...she just couldn't turn her back on those she held close...perhaps, if they had turned their backs on her...she might well be...still with us today.

A tough watch. A heart-shattering film.
