Red Dirt

Country: USA, Language: English, 110 mins

  • Director: Tag Purvis
  • Writer: Tag Purvis
  • Producer: Cyril Bijaoui; Sean Gibbons

CGiii Comment

Purvis’ one and only feature to date – prepare, taking time out to gasp at its utter beauty.

Unfortunately, this is not for everyone – rather than think of it as slow, think gentle – think a painful realisation of truths...whether it be sanity, love or expectation.

Karen Black reels out a performance which, at first, is high octane and then matures into finesse...skillful.

Think Tennessee Williams without the anxiety attack on the senses. This is a gentle film with wild characterisations.

What makes it particularly memorable is the simple fact that you will feel as if you have just looked upon art.

Think slow, patient beauty and you will be rewarded.

The(ir) Blurb...

Red Dirt offers the story of a young man's search to belong in this sublime expression of love and reconciliation. At only twenty, Griffith is struggling with the responsibilities of caring for his unwell aunt, grieving the loss of their family's matriarch, and his own dreams of leaving Pine Apple. With the arrival of a stranger, Griffith's carefully constructed walls of shame and silence begin to come down and his life takes an unexpected turn.
