CGiii Comment

After an absence of 58 years, Tomas Milian returns to Cuba. In 1956, when he was still a young man, he left the island for the US, where he became the first Cuban member of the prestigious Actors Studio. It was after seeing the movie East of Eden that he decided to pursue a career in acting, and James Dean became his model. This movie is a journey back in time, between past and present, in which this great Cuban actor (who has recently died) visits the places of his childhood (and youth). He finds the villa where he witnessed his father's suicide when he was 12 (but is unable to go in); the streets of Havana; the cemetery, where he searches for the graves of those who remained in Cuba. The Cuban Hamlet is a moving and personal search for the past, in which we see the images of the places and memories of Milian's early life. A fitting tribute to a truly unique person, whose superb acting contributed to the success of cinema, both in Italy and internationally.
