They've all grown up and ended up nowhere!
Many years ago, Robert Carlyle said that his character 'Begbie' was gay...how he came to that conclusion...only he knows! But...he did give some convoluted reason as to his reasoning - a case of over-thinking the character! Even Irvine Welsh - in part - concurred!
So, bearing that in mind...were we about to witness Begbie come screaming out of the closet?!? Not in a month of Sundays! Despite what the actor [and author] may think/say...there's not a sliver of 'gay' in Begbie!
In fact, there's no 'gay' in this film whatsoever...but, dear hearts, don't let that put you off. For this is a fine sequel...
A mature humour runs throughout, the camarderie between the actors is plain - and joyful - to behold. And, Spud...the ever dependable [for a junkie] shines and radiates hidden talents...and, for a junkie, exudes a surprising warmth and depth.
The original film is elegantly referenced throughout...but, it would be advisable to watch it [again] before embarking on this one...we did, all awhile looking for those tell-tale 'gay' signs...nope, we remain unconvinced on that one! But...20 years in the slammer does do strange things to a man!
It's perfectly feasible to imagine 'part 3' in 20 years time...there's just something about these characters...or, is it the actors?
Perhaps, in another 20 years Begbie will find his inner Dolly Parton...we wait with anticipation...and patience!

First there was an opportunity......then there was a betrayal. Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same.
