CGiii Comment

Hettie Macdonald's career started off well...with Beautiful Thing (1996) - since then she has been lost in a quagmire of suburban TV...this could have been her time to shine once again.

Alas, no...the first 3 episodes are as stilted and wooden as Sevigny's acting - even Oscar-nominated actresses need to be directed.

Macdonald has the irritating habit of opening a scene with a moody sky shot (or some other irrelevance) rather than jumping right in, propelling the story forward with pace and panache. No such luck here...sluggish with so many prosthetic penis shots - you'll be screaming at the screen - get a move on and we get the whole pre-operative transsexual thing, you don't need to show it 1000 times.

The writing is inconsistent and tired...when a trans hit(wo)man utters the line to a potential love interest: I'm not like other women...you know that inspiration went flying out of the window and terminally crashed into the nearest wall...

So...that's the first 3 episodes...it's not looking good - perhaps Sheree Folkson can save the day...

If anything, Folkson is worse - the writing has deteriorated beyond recognition and the ending will have you throwing hammers at the screen.

Wasted time with no effort by the production crew.
