CGiii Comment

Irrational infatuation...

It could have been an important film...but, staying awake is mighty difficult.

The beginning is good - even impressive...the sound man should be congratulated, the lighting man should be shot.

Lotz plays his part perfectly...however, Hermanus loses control of the reigns and lets his pet (project) wallow in moody (i.e. badly lit), irrelevant scenes...

The pace limps to a ill-conceived ending, leaving behind a flurry of loose ends and an unresolved hatred - not a good way to leave an audience.

The opportunity was there - to have the audience in the palm of the director's hand...but, he was too busy looking at the trees and failed to see the wood.

Disappointing.

The(ir) Blurb...

Tells the story of Francois van Heerden, a mid-40s, white, Afrikaans-speaking family man living in Bloemfontein, who has become devoid of any care or concern for his own measure of happiness, so convinced of his ill-fated existence, that he is wholly unprepared when a chance encounter unravels his clean, controlled life.
