CGiii Comment

It happens to us all...age and its inherent decrepitude.

McKellen is titantic as he travails through his voyages of senility and those glorious yesteryears.

The sadness is tangible...how we wither. More poignant when set against a shining light - young Milo Parker is a beacon.

There is a subtext...with Watson, a face never seen, mentioned with embittered affection...from a regretful Mr Holmes.

How the Mighty weather and wither...how the tears do fall.

A beautiful and under-appreciated film.

The(ir) Blurb...

The story is actually set in 1947, following a long-retired Holmes living in a Sussex village with his housekeeper and rising detective son. But then he finds himself haunted by an unsolved 50-year old case. Holmes memory isn't what it used to be, so he only remembers fragments of the case: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.
