CGiii Comment

As 'film festival-ish' as a film can be...if it hadn't won the 'Jury Prize' at Queer Lisboa [and nominated @ Berlinale]...it would have ended up on that gargantuan, ever-increasing pile of forgotten-film-festival-films...however, because of its credentials, we had to get our mitts on it...talk about being disappointed...

It's a little bamboozling, it's totally frustrating...nothing really happens. Read whatever 'gay' you want into it...there's nothing 'gay' about it.

Two childhood friends reunite...although they can't remember being childhood friends...yet, they become chums. Nope, not bum-chums, just chums...although one of them is a complete drunken, vile, violent bum...while the other is the soul of respectability who wears a [tight] suit and climbs cliffs. There's an aunt with Alzheimers and a wee man who goes round dishing out flags...it's all so contrived with empty contrivances! Or...are the loaded with deep meaningful meanings!?!

This is Zaza Rusadze's first feature and - to date - his only feature...obviously, Mr Rusadze has something to say about Georgia, about the Russian 'influence' - about the future...shame he went about it so cryptically...or, is this a case of lost-in-translation...or, so wonderfully intelligent, it went over our collective heads?

You decide!
