  • Director: Virginia Fuentes

CGiii Comment

Being gay in Cuba has never being easy. Despite things changed considerably in the last 10 years, homosexuality remains to be a taboo. For women it's even more difficult, they have to face the double standard of being women and gay in a society with a high level of machismo. Even more complicated is being a lesbian mother. They don't have access to adoption or IV, but in Cuba there is always a way. MAMIS is a story about Violet, Isabel, Tamara and Johanna: some Cuban women who found their own way. Women who never liker to ask for permission to live their lives, despite the prejudices and rules of Cuban society. A story about families who are tired of being treated as second-class citizens.
