What makes a man a mother? Is motherliness reserved for women? And is motherhood the natural role of women or is "mother" an institution?

(M) Other is a documentation about parent / respectively. Parenting, in which we encounter genetic, pregnant and social mothers as well as gay fathers' couples, all of whom do not seem to conform to the internalized image of a real mother. On the one hand, the most natural thing in the world, motherhood is stylized into an artificially glorified ideal that transforms the human instinct socially and socially and legitimizes it at the same time as the "nature of women". Critical are expectations of women with children, who are described in the Western world as so demanding and contradictory that no one (no mother) can fulfill them alone. This topic will be explored across the continent (Berlin vs. Canada) and across different epochs. So we get to know mother, grandmother and, indirectly, the great-grandmother of the director, who describes herself as a lesbian.

For all those who deal with the topic of parenting - especially for those of us who can not realize their desire for children in a "natural" way - (M) Other becomes a poetic documentary voyage of discovery that raises socially highly topical and forward-looking questions.
