CGiii Comment
Richard Hawkins’ intelligent Second World War satire unfolds on the Orkneys, where a disparate group (played by John McCrae, Ronnie Ancona, Natalie Quarry, Jack Bandeira, Ben Bela Böhm and Ollie Maddigan) have been sent with orders to make a hardcore pornographic film, in triplicate, to raise troop morale. It might sound like an Ealing set-up but Hawkins' drama soon takes a darker turn as naked truths are revealed about the group’s morals, the roles they’ve been coerced into playing and the boundaries they are willing to cross. A film that also proves the adage that the first casualty of war is truth.
