CGiii Comment

In his life, Jose Antonio Vargas [Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist] has had to come out twice.

Once as a gay man...and, then, as an illegal immigrant (or, euphemistically, an undocumented American).

He had no choice...when he was 12 years old, his mother and grand-parents decided that America was the place for him to be. His grand-parents were legal residents...! Surely, with their status, he would be able to legally migrate?!?!?!

That's the problem with this film - too many inconsistencies and not enough explanation - obviously, we are only hearing half of the story!

Immigration is a problem - everywhere. There are laws in place...flout those laws (whether they be fair or otherwise) and face the consequences - Vargas - like many others - is vicariously affected...who should be held accountable for his illegal immigration?

He does ask the most pertinent question: [to the USA Government] What do you want to do with us?

There was no answer - just like this film...full of no answers.

The(ir) Blurb...

In 2011, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas outed himself as an undocumented immigrant in the New York Times Magazine. 'Documented' chronicles his journey to America from the Philippines as a child; his journey through America as an immigration reform activist/provocateur; and his journey inward as he re-connects with his mother, whom he hasn't seen in 20 years.
