With a family like this...there would be no need for any enemies!

With privilege, there is always the risk of disgrace, especially in Franco's Spain...when homosexuality was illegal...so, what happens when the prodigal son arrives back home with a male ballet dancer in tow? It doesn't take too long before the chattering classes start chattering and condemning.

But...there's a twist! In fact, there are so many twists that the obvious person who's going to die isn't that obvious anymore. Everyone has motive, grudge and capacity to do the foul deed...it really is just a waiting game...and, when it unfolds...it's fast and jaw-dropping!

Franco's regime was stifling, this really does serve as a reminder as to the lengths some people went to...for their own self-preservation. Loyalty to Franco superceded any other loyalties...even to your own family!

Manolo Caro lays it on thick with lavish relish...the racism, the nationalism, the homophobia, the cruelty...all part and parcel of an all-controlling dictatorship. Franco - incomprehensibly - still has admirers. Russia has Putin.

A mighty fine production that could have gone on for longer, running deeper into the totalitarianism of State and mind!
