CGiii Comment

Very few performers can get away with deadpan delivery. When they succeed, it can be hysterical. When they fail, the deadpan becomes monotonal and interest just fritters away.

We made it to the end of episode 3...and then, the interest just frittered away. The main problem is with the central character, Sabi...who, it would seem, embraces apathy with a laissez-faire, passion-less passion. Sabi is also rather toxic...not bitchy, not funny, just toxic.

This is meant to be a comedy, not one laugh to be had in the first three episodes. Political correctness and comedy are like oil and water, ask any jobbing stand-up how careful they have to be at not offending the super-sensitive...at the expense of their material!

When you throw into that [already] osmotic mix...yes, the dreaded snow-flakishness sensitivity...all humour collapses, [especially] to those without the required snow-flakishness, instantly to the floor...

Sort Of...is a self-centred extravaganza...with not enough [i.e. no] humour nor warmth...with too much toxicity and apathy to make it even remotely palatable.

Things may improve with episode 4...but, 3 - really - were enough.

The(ir) Blurb...

"The future is theirs."

Follows the journey of Sabi Mehboob (Baig), a gender fluid millennial who straddles various identities from sexy bartender at an LGBTQ bookstore/bar, to the youngest child in a large Pakistani family, to the de facto parent of a downtown hipster family. Sabi feels like they're in transition in every aspect of their life, from gender to love to sexuality to family to career.
