CGiii Comment

There are many [too many] documentaries about Andy Warhol...but, none come even close to how this 40 minute film sums up the aesthetic and importance of the man...and, done with humour [and a touch of understandable regret]!

Here, there is no art world sycophancy, no art critic jargon...this is about a piece of art that was owned and swapped...the provenance [alone] has escalated this wooden, yellow Brillo box from $1000 to over $3 million! Okay, the red crayon signature helped!

Much has been said, argued and debated around the topic of appropriation [cultural and otherwise]...Lisanne Skyler [and her family] explain it succinctly.

The Brillo box does everything that a film should...enlighten, educate and entertain. Without spoiling anything...but, the ending to this rather remarkable story is nothing but an emotional full circle.

If you want to understand Pop Art - this is the best place to start. Really, a fantastic wee, valuable film.

The(ir) Blurb...

'Brillo Box (3¢ off)' follows a beloved Andy Warhol Brillo Box sculpture as it makes its way from a family's living room to a record-breaking Christie's auction, blending personal narrative with pop culture, and exploring how we navigate the ephemeral nature of art and value.
