Steambath

Country: USA, Language: English, 90 mins

  • Director: Burt Brinckerhoff
  • Writer: Bruce Jay Friedman
  • Producer: Norman Lloyd; George Turpin

CGiii Comment

TV adaptation of Bruce Jay Friedman's off-Broadway play.

It was off-Broadway for a reason.

What a steaming pile of CRAP.

Two singing gay men supply the camp light relief to this monstrosity of a film.

Nothing has changed from its theatrical roots - filmed on one set, overly wordy and static.

It tries hard to make an impact...but, fails and falls into a soggy reflection on regret and life.

In a word: Boring.

The(ir) Blurb...

TV adaptation of Bruce Jay Friedman's off-Broadway play. Tandy, Merideth and assorted others unexpectedly wake up in a steambath with no easy exit. After spending some time there, it becomes clear that the steambath is a sort of Afterlife, where indifferent souls come to tell their stories to God who happens to be the attendant picking up the towels.
