CGiii Comment

Prince Egon, distracted and spoilt, spends every night smoking one cigarette after another and playing drums, to everyone's dismay. While on a helicopter flight he discovers the neighbouring kingdom of Kentz, cursed a century ago so that the whole population has fallen asleep. The only way to awaken them is to kiss the beautiful sleeping princess, Rosemunde. Prince Egon considers this mission as an absolute priority, despite the opposition of his father the king. He finds an ally in an attractive archaeologist from UNESCO, who will help him to succeed in the mission that has now become his dream. This film marks Ado Arrietta's return to feature films, directing a kitsch version of the famous fairy tale, over-the-top and intentionally unconventional, recalling Jean Cocteau and Alain Resnais'. In the cast we find Ingrid Caven, Fassbinder's favourite actress, in the role of the bad witch.
