Quite simply: A modern day classic.

Rarely do we get to gush about a film...cue: Some serious gushing.

Ooooooh...where to start?

With Sam Neil, he supports a blisteringly funny performance by Julian Dennison - whose comic timing is utter perfection.

The writing...to hell with political correctness...off-the-wall one-liners come - fast and furious - from every angle...with a monologue [from Dennison] that will have you howling, a masterclass in how to innocently incriminate [an innocent] someone of serious child sexual abuse/assault!

Yes, there are moments when the comedy is rather clunky...the buffoons in the forest, too slapstick. The chief detective, not a natural actress and/or comedian.

However, these hiccups can be forgiven...this is a rollercoaster ride of hard knocks, tender times and sad circumstances. It really is all about survival...choosing to live your life the way you want to, screwing the system - a system that really knows nothing about choice.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople manages - in its stride - to address the complexities of children-in-care and the dead-end care that the elderly have to look forward to...not exactly the cheeriest of subjects...but, these grim realities have been dealt a knockout blow via a fine script and an electric on-screen chemistry between man and boy...cease the gushing!

Bend over backwards to see this...it's heart-warming, it's a riot...it's a bloody marvellous film!
