Elias doesn't feel understood or seen in Ijmuiden where he works at the fishing tackle. He misses his parents after their departure for Turkey. When his brother, Kemal, rents their parents' bedroom, Tom comes to live with them. Seen first as an intruder, Tom turns out to help Elias in his journey to discover himself.
