Through first person interviews and archive material the film shares stories of growing up Black and Queer in 1970s and 80s Britain.

Navigating youth in this period of cultural and political turbulence the protagonists tackled things their own way. London’s alternative nightclub scene provided sanctuary even if only for a moment Forerunners and fiercely individual, these rare & vividly recounted memories tell of a singular determination and of resisting definition, through dance, art, fashion and music. The film acknowledges the importance of family, whether a parent or a group of like minded friends ‘you needed somewhere to go' where you felt good about yourself'...
