Frameline39 Jury Awards

Frameline has a long history of supporting pioneering films and filmmakers, and we continue that tradition with our seletions for the Wells Fargo First Feature Award and the Frameline39 Outstanding Documentary Awards.

First Feature - Honorable Mention

For its uniquely constructed mosaic of Kenyan LGBTQI lives, its stunning black-and-white cinematography, and as an act of artistic and political courage, the Frameline39 First Feature Jury awards an honorable mention to STORIES OF OUR LIVES, directed by Jim Chuchu.

Outstanding First Feature Award

For its sensitive, multi-layered exploration of sexual discovery, against the backdrop of the history of a Latin American city and culture…for the surprising depth and complexity in its performances and themes, and its appreciation for the gradations of sexuality, the Frameline39 Outstanding First Feature Award is proudly presented to IN THE GRAYSCALE, directed by Claudio Marcone.

Documentary - Honorable Mention

For its thrillingly told cautionary tale--executed with compelling craft--about the dangers of the virtual world and the deep drive for love and human connection, set against the struggle for queer rights and democracy in Syria and the challenges of our hydra-headed news media, the Frameline39 Documentary Jury awards an Honorable Mention to THE AMINA PROFILE directed by Sophie Deraspe.

Outstanding Documentary

For its heartbreaking testament to universal love across borders and longing across decades and its remarkable achievement in following a complex story as it unfolds before our eyes, raising challenging cross-cultural perspectives on homophobia, identity and fate, the Frameline39 Jury Award for Outstanding Documentary goes to ALEX & ALI, directed by Malachi Leopold.

Frameline39 Volunteer of the Year Award

Selected by honoree and 2015 Frameline Volunteer of the Year, Jackie Dennis.
