F.A.Q. - Feminist and Queer International Film Festival

F.A.Q. - Feminist and Queer International Film Festival

Monday, 31 August 2026 until Friday, 04 September 2026

F.A.Q. International Film Festival is back! As the first Feminist and Queer International Film Festival in Romania, FAQiff is a pioneering platform dedicated to showcasing bold, diverse, and underrepresented voices in global cinema. The festival creates a safe, inclusive, and celebratory space for films and artists who challenge conventional narratives while exploring themes of feminism, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, and sexuality.

The festival’s first edition took place in November 2015, marking an important cultural milestone in Romania, where queer and feminist narratives have often been marginalized. Despite its enthusiastic reception, the festival faced sponsorship challenges, which led to a pause in its continuity. Nevertheless, the resilience of its organizers, community support, and the growing international interest in feminist and queer cinema have paved the way for its revival.

The fifth edition of FAQiff will be held in August 2026, reaffirming its commitment to visibility, representation, and dialogue. Each year, the festival presents a curated program of international and Romanian films, ranging from narrative features and documentaries to short films and experimental works. Selected films are placed in the section of the program deemed most suitable by the festival programmers, ensuring that each story resonates with audiences in the most impactful way possible.

In addition to film screenings, FAQiff also hosts panel discussions, artist talks, workshops, and community events, encouraging meaningful conversations on the intersections of cinema, activism, and identity. By bringing together filmmakers, activists, and audiences, the festival fosters cultural exchange and inspires new forms of artistic and social expression.

FAQiff is more than a film festival—it is a movement of solidarity and celebration, amplifying feminist and queer voices in Romania and beyond.
