CGiii Comment

Difficult thing to pull off...a musical.

Here, the musical numbers feel like an additional [mostly unnecessary] appendage...who needs an additional appendage?!? No doubt, there are some out there who do...and, there are many who like a good toe-tapping musical! This isn't exactly toe-tapping...but, it certainly does pluck at the heartstrings.

Look...this is a young film! Old, embittered cynics are going to hate it. But, for [some] young adults...it will be a breath of fresh air. A straighforward narrative told over a decade...amply shows off the talents of the actors as they grow into their [respective] skins...warming the cockles of your heart, all the way.

It's such a relatable film, regardless of your age...[for older viewers] rather than suspend disbelief, [temporarily] shove all your hard-earned cynicism to one side...sit back and enjoy...let those waves of nostalgia wash over you.

It is theatrical. It's quite lovely. It's a little gem of a film.

The(ir) Blurb...

It's the summer of 1996 in Houston, Texas. Benjamin Bentley is an openly gay 17 year old teenage boy with not so many friends, who suddenly becomes infatuated with Tim Wyman, a handsome and popular, supposedly straight, newcomer. When a not-so-accident brings them together, their love story begins. They start a secret relationship and they build a world of their own. Something Like Summer is a coming of age story of true long lasting love, about insecurities, social pressure, heartache and love again that spans 12 years. It's about being true to yourself, letting your heart lead the way and discovering the strength of love.
