CGiii Comment

A first-time director...without a budget...produces a valiant and mature film.

Rarely do you get the opportunity to watch an inter-generational [love] story that turns the table - so obliquely - as this one does.

The young care-free, caring hustler and the 'wise' older man...less of the wise, more blinkered, more pre-judgmental. More of everything you don't want to become!

As a comment on youth and maturity...it's more and less grim. Maximilian Moll throws a bucket-load of dichotomies at the screen...there are the obvious and the not-so...but, the one that sticks, the emasculation of HIV...now, that is bold, daring, jaw-dropping and eye-opening. Lest we forget...HIV is no longer in its infancy!

Look, it's not without its faults...some scenes are unnecessary, some scenes go on for far too long...there are clumsy jump cuts and camera bumps.

And...yes...all can be forgiven...simply because this story has an unnerving sincerity, fearless in its approach.

The truth can be ugly. The truth can be beautiful. Your past can always catch up on you. Your future is yours for the making.

A film that reaches far...Maximilian Moll has - indeed - a future in film.
