CGiii Comment

The New Jews is a bold and visually striking documentary that follows Israeli-Jewish exiles in Berlin, driven by their pro-Palestinian views and frustrations with Israel’s political climate.

At its center are Amir and Inés, two filmmakers seeking connection, a fresh start, and sexual adventures. Yet every interaction they pursue is shaped by the lingering weight of the Holocaust and the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, turning the search for belonging into an often surreal and challenging experience.?

Through stark, interrogation-style interviews, other Israeli exiles share stories of persecution and alienation, revealing the struggles they faced back in Israel and the complexities of living as leftist Jews in Germany. The film’s rotoscope animation visually captures their sense of detachment and disorientation, emphasizing the tension between past and present.
