CGiii Comment

One of the most anticipated films of the year...

Well, it's nowhere near as bad as some have said it is...but, it is nowhere near as good as it could have been. Both writer and director are to blame...not, as many have said, Harry Styles...yes, he is a little wooden in places...but, that really is the director's fault. The blame does not rest only on his shoulders. The writer has taken a damn fine book and stripped it of its temper.

Apart from the spectacular miscasting of Harry Styles together with David Dawson [or vice versa]...it's all so beige and bland, audio-visually speaking. What should have been a story about inequality, homophobia, hate, passion, deceit and lies has been mangled into a very English, stiff upper lip debacle.

And, just when that lip starts to quiver, when you expect the fireworks to fly...all you get is the end...with one of the most ill-judged closing shots of all-time!

Talk about a wasted opportunity...a butt-naked Harry Styles in his second leading role [Don't Worry Darling being his first, in the same year]...he, like all the other actors are one-note throughout. Talk about under-directing actors, even the bombshell [that was seen a mile coming] failed to explode.

It does have a few moments that will delight the Stylers...Harry's bum cheeks being the most obvious. But, with the ongoing, nonsensical debate on gay actors exclusively playing gay characters, Harry may have bitten off more than he can chew...his promotion of the film has been surprisingly lacking...not too much of a surprise after his viral interview with Chris Pine...that it feels like a movie embarrassment! How would he have described this film...!?!

My Policeman is not a terrible film by any stretch of the imagination. It just needed director who understood the money shots...and, there were many...rage, butts and fury! But...not enough balls!

Sadly, the result is somewhat underwhelming. Watchable though.
